02 Application engineering
Applications
01
Industrial reactive power compensation
Motors and other inductive loads draw reactive power as well as active power. A capacitor bank supplies part of that demand near the distribution point. Measured load profiles, existing power factor and the target operating range determine compensation capacity; light-load conditions must be considered to avoid overcompensation.
02
Variable building and utility loads
Offices, retail facilities and central utilities have reactive demand that changes as equipment starts and stops. An automatic bank switches capacitor steps to follow that demand. Step sizes, controller sensing location and switching duty should match the load pattern, rather than being chosen from transformer capacity alone.
03
Networks with drives and UPS
Variable-speed drives, UPS and rectifiers introduce harmonics that must be assessed before adding capacitors. Network impedance and measured distortion guide the evaluation of resonance risk, detuned reactors and switching equipment. A capacitor bank is not an active harmonic filter; harmonic mitigation and reactive compensation require a coordinated design.

Electrical values entered here are requested requirements. Equipment ratings must match the selected model and its technical datasheet.
This category covers capacitor panels. APF and SVG are separate equipment categories.
04 Construction and options
Construction & configuration options
Compensation arrangement
Fixed and automatic stepped compensation address steady and varying reactive-power demand respectively.
Capacitor steps
Step sizes and switching sequence organise the requested total kvar around the operating load profile.
Switching & protection
Switching, isolation, circuit protection and discharge arrangements form part of the capacitor-circuit design.
Harmonic conditions
Harmonic measurements and non-linear load data guide capacitor-circuit selection and resonance checks. Capacitor compensation does not establish APF or SVG functionality.
Control & indication
The selected controller governs step switching. Indication and alarm functions follow its documented features.
Thermal arrangement
Panel layout, ventilation and component clearances account for ambient conditions and installation space.
05 Applicable standards and requirements
Standards & engineering
Project specification
Provide the applicable standard editions, destination requirements and tender specification.
Rating schedule
Keep the electrical ratings and installation limits linked to the selected model.
Verification documents
Identify the required inspection records, test reports and acceptance criteria.
Supply scope
Identify the requested compensation technology and required measurement, component, test and documentation scope in the quotation. Availability and deliverables require confirmation; requested options do not confirm inclusion.
