02 Application engineering

Applications

01

Pumping and water treatment

Pump and blower feeders group motor starting, overload protection and operating status in one MCC. Duty/standby changeover, level or pressure signals and process interlocks define the control interfaces. Motor data, starting frequency and the process requirement for speed control guide the choice of direct starting, soft starters or drives.

02

Production and material handling

Conveyors, mixers and compressors need motor feeders matched to their starting duty and operating sequence. The motor list defines ratings and feeder quantities; load characteristics determine starting methods and protection. Process permissives, fault feedback and local isolation must be coordinated with the line control system and maintenance procedures.

03

Ventilation and building services

Fans, circulation pumps and other building services can be grouped in an MCC with local and remote control. Operating schedules, speed-control requirements and building-management signals define the interfaces. The design must distinguish ordinary process commands from safety-related shutdown functions and establish how faults and running status are reported.

04 Construction and options

Construction & configuration options

Motor feeder arrangement

Isolation, protection and starting equipment form the motor feeder. Feeder layout follows the motor duty and the panel arrangement.

Starting methods

DOL, star-delta, soft starter and VFD requirements can be combined across different motor feeders in the same inquiry.

Motor protection

Overload and short-circuit requirements form part of the motor-feeder protection design. Earth-fault protection is specified separately where required.

Control & interlocks

Commands, permissives, trip signals and feedback connect motor operation to the process sequence.

PLC / SCADA interfaces

Hardwired signals and communication interfaces connect the MCC to supervisory controls. Programming, source files and commissioning are separate scope items.

Panel layout & access

Starter-unit arrangement, cable routing and spare ways organise the panel around installation space and maintenance access.

05 Applicable standards and requirements

Standards & engineering

Motor Control Centers (MCC)
Project specification
Provide the applicable standard editions, destination requirements and tender specification.
Rating schedule
Keep the electrical ratings and installation limits linked to the selected model.
Verification documents
Identify the required inspection records, test reports and acceptance criteria.
Supply scope
Define motor feeders, selected starters and control wiring in the project scope. PLC / SCADA programming, source files and on-site commissioning require separate confirmation; they are not included by default.

07 Decision support

Frequently asked questions

Motor Control Centers (MCC)
Can one MCC use different starting methods?

Yes. Select DOL, star-delta, soft starter and VFD together, then assign the required method to each motor in the motor list.

How do I choose between a soft starter and a VFD?

State whether the motor needs controlled acceleration only or speed control during operation. Include motor power, load characteristics and starting constraints.

Does a PLC interface include PLC programming?

A PLC interface defines the signal connection. PLC programming, SCADA integration, source files and commissioning are separate scope items.
